Thymiopoulos Vineyards 2024 "Young Vines" Red
Tasting Notes
The Thymiopoulos Vineyards 2024 "Young Vines" Red is a vibrant, organic expression of Greece's prestigious Naoussa appellation. Crafted from 100% Xinomavro, a native dark-skinned grape prized for its naturally high acidity and potential for complex, savory longevity, this bottling offers an approachable, high-energy take on the variety by utilizing younger, non-irrigated vines grown on schist, granite, and limestone soils. On the nose, the 2024 vintage yields highly fragrant aromas of crunchy red cherry, wild cranberry, and ripe strawberry, layered with subtle undertones of fresh garden herbs, dried rose petals, and a touch of sun-dried tomato. The palate features a distinctive, playful attack balanced by crisp, mouthwatering acidity and a medium, silky body that carries a lovely intensity of red fruit without heavy weight. Fine, soft tannins frame the wine beautifully, introducing complex, distinctly Mediterranean accents of black olive, tea leaf, and earthy spice as it breathes, culminating in a prolonged, refreshing finish. Because of its bright fruit structure and savory depth, this wine serves as a brilliant food companion that pairs exceptionally well with rustic Mediterranean and Greek cuisine. Its acidity makes it a delicious counterweight to rich, fatty dishes featuring bacon, charcuterie, and grilled or roasted meats like lamb koftas. It also shines alongside tomato-heavy dishes such as wood-fired pizza and rich pasta sauces, as well as grilled mushrooms, white mold cheeses, and poultry. Serving this red wine slightly chilled enhances its refreshing properties and accentuates its vibrant, juicy fruit character.
