Patricia Green Cellars 2024 Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
The Patricia Green Cellars 2024 Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is a beautifully crafted expression of 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the renowned Freedom Hill Vineyard in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Planted on ancient marine sedimentary Bellpine soils, this vineyard naturally tends to produce dark, intense, and heavily structured wines. However, careful vineyard management has introduced a remarkable sense of elegance and finesse to this vintage. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented using native yeasts, and aged carefully in French oak barrels to balance the site's inherent power with exceptional refinement.
In the glass, the wine pours a jeweled, limpid ruby-red color. The bouquet opens with an initial touch of oak spice, vanilla, and nutmeg, which beautifully blossoms with air to reveal rich aromas of ripe raspberry, dark cherry, candied fruit, minty herbs, and a delicate floral touch of lavender. On the palate, this medium-bodied Pinot Noir is dense yet floats effortlessly with a firm acidic backbone and plush, expanding flavors of blackberry, cherry cola, spicecake, and a distinct mineral edge. The finish is remarkably persistent and complex, carrying a hint of smokiness framed by mouthwatering, chewy tannins that evolve beautifully from rich fruit to savory herbs.
This balanced and food-friendly Oregon Pinot Noir pairs exceptionally well with rich, savory dishes that complement its bright acidity and fine-grained tannin structure. It is a match made in heaven for grilled sausages, barbecue pork ribs, roasted root vegetables, and mushroom-forward entrees. The wine’s dark berry profile and mineral undertones also make it a wonderful companion for roasted poultry like turkey or chicken, duck breast, or a charcuterie board featuring sharp cheddar, Gouda, and Brie cheeses.
