The 2023 Opus One is a masterfully composed Napa Valley Bordeaux-style blend that showcases the harmony, precision, and elegance of a classic, measured Oakville growing season. Driven by meticulous estate craftsmanship, the 2023 vintage is headlined by a prominent 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by a refined assembly of 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Benefiting from an uncomplicated and temperate climate cycle, the grapes developed steadily before undergoing 22 days of skin contact and maturing for 19 months in new French oak barrels. The resulting wine achieves a remarkably "weightless" yet deeply concentrated structure, retaining a balanced 13.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and introducing the estate's first iteration of regeneratively farmed vines.
98pts Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Spectator & Decanter
The 2023 Opus One has achieved exceptional critical acclaim across the industry, with major publications identifying it as a standout, super-classic vintage. Leading global critics have lauded the wine's incredible harmony, describing it as "class personified" and highly praising its exquisite finesse. The vintage earned a resounding 98-point score from a chorus of premium standard-bearers, including Wine Spectator, Vinous Media, Decanter, and Jeb Dunnuck. Tasters particularly highlight its weightless yet deep concentration, remarking that the vintage stands out as the most complete and structurally seamless release from the Oakville estate in recent years.
