Tasting Notes
The 2024 Domaine Mader Alsace Pinot Blanc is a highly expressive, certified organic white wine from the picture-postcard village of Hunawihr, France. True to traditional Alsatian labeling laws, this wine is legally a blend of two closely related varietals: 67% Auxerrois and 33% Pinot Blanc. The Auxerrois component lends a glossy, viscous mouthfeel and rich body, while the Pinot Blanc contributes a nervous, structural backbone filled with vibrant, crisp acidity. Hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, the juice undergoes a natural fermentation and is aged on fine lees for several months—with roughly 8% to 15% matured in neutral oak barrels—giving the finished estate wine a gorgeous balance of uncompromised varietal freshness and subtle texture. On the nose, the 2024 vintage opens with highly aromatic notes of classic white flowers, citrus undertones, lemon zest, and subtle hints of stony minerality. The palate is dry and beautifully balanced, leading with the taste of crisp orchard fruits like green apple and winter pear before transitioning into a refreshing, clean-cut finish. This dry structure and lively acidity make it an incredibly versatile, food-friendly pairing wine. It shines brilliantly alongside delicate seafood dishes such as poached salmon, raw oysters, or grilled scallops, and matches seamlessly with light poultry or classic Alsatian cuisine like onion tarts and crispy tarte flambée.
