Jean Faure 2022 La Reserve Saint Emilion Rouge

$ 4999

Tasting Notes

Unlike the estate's Grand Vin which includes a small percentage of Malbec, this specific 2022 vintage of La Réserve is an equal 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot blend. The grapes are sustainably grown using certified organic viticulture on a historic limestone-clay plateau neighboring the iconic Château Cheval Blanc. To emphasize vibrant fruit extraction over heavy wood traits, the winemakers implement a gentle infusion technique, aging the wine for 10 months primarily in concrete egg-shaped vats and concrete tanks.

Visually, the wine shows a striking black cherry color complemented by bright ruby highlights. The winemaker notes that “the nose is rather remarkable, with the purity and freshness of crunchy fruit.” Prominent aromatic layers of ripe plum, wild blackberry, and violet mesh with subtle background accents of graphite, herbal savouriness, and a touch of earth. On the palate, the Merlot provides a plush, supple texture that counters the refreshing, lively acidity driven by the Cabernet Franc. It finishes exceptionally smooth, sustained by fine-grained, enveloping tannins and a lingering touch of spice.

Thanks to its lively acidity and moderate tannin structure, this Saint-Émilion pair beautifully with classic meat dishes and savory, earth-forward entrees. It makes an excellent companion to a grilled flat iron steak topped with garlic herb butter, where the protein naturally softens the wine's build. Additionally, the earthy clay notes of the terroir make it a wonderful match for a gourmet mushroom and Swiss burger, rich pasta courses, or roasted duck and lamb. For the best tasting experience, serve the bottle slightly cool at around 15.5°C (60°F) to maximize its aromatic lift.
