Far Mountain 2021 "Fission" Cabernet Sauvignon

Far Mountain is the passion project of husband-and-wife duo Rodrigo Soto and Mai Errazuriz, who spent decades guiding premier estates in Chile and California before establishing their own mountain-focused project. Driven by a desire to champion forgotten, high-altitude vineyards, they set their sights on the rugged terrain of the Moon Mountain District in Sonoma Valley. The core of this bottling comes from the dramatic, steep-terraced Alta Vista Vineyard—a dry-farmed site planted over fifty years ago on ancient volcanic soils. Working with minimalist, low-intervention winemaking and subtle French oak, Soto and Errazuriz craft a Cabernet that eschews over-extraction, allowing the raw intensity and cooler mountain climate to speak directly through the glass.

This is an exceptionally complex, site-driven mountain red with a dark depth of fruit chiselled by elevation and mineral-rich volcanic soils. Aromas of wild blackberry and dark currant lead into layered savory notes of fresh thyme, bay leaf, cedar, and crushed pine needle. On the palate, a dense core of sappy tart black fruit is framed by brooding, iron-like minerality and graphite streaks. The structure is defined by firm, rounded tannins and a bright, electric acidity that carries through to a long finish marked by dried herbs and white pepper.
