We’ve been fans of Burly for close to 20 years. Owner Hank McCrorie, a North Carolina native and longtime friend of Taylor’s Wine Shop, has joined us for many memorable tastings and events over the years. Both Hank and his wines have never failed to impress the Taylor’s faithful.

The Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon represents the very best of Burly’s longtime work with the Simpkins Vineyard in Napa Valley’s Coombsville AVA. After years of working this site, Hank and his team know the vineyard inside and out, identifying the blocks, rows, and individual vines that consistently produce its most exceptional fruit.

Barrels from these prized rows are kept separate in the cellar. From that small selection, just the two finest barrels are chosen and bottled separately as Special Select.

2019 Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon

Deep and beautifully layered, the 2019 opens with black cherry, cassis, blackberry, and pomegranate, joined by notes of anise, integrated oak, and a distinctive mineral character.

The palate is rich and velvety with a plush mouthfeel, silky midpalate, and deep, coating tannins. Beautiful structure carries through to a persistent, juicy finish. Layered, complex, and lingering, this is a serious Napa Cabernet that is drinking wonderfully now while possessing the structure to age gracefully for years to come.
