Bodegas El Nido’s 2021 Clio is a deeply concentrated, garnet‑hued red that opens with succulent black fruit ranging from fresh to preserved, layered with caramel, toffee, cocoa, tobacco, coffee, and subtle earthy and mineral nuances. On the palate it is huge, powerful, and savory, yet marked by a surprising elegance, driven by linear acidity, ripe tannins, and a very long finish. Additional aromatic complexity noted by critics includes herbs, plums, mint, balsamic tones, and a touch of ash, all carried by a silky, velvety texture that reflects its extended aging in French and American oak. The wine is composed of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from old vines in Jumilla.

Its richness and structure make it an excellent partner for grilled lamb, braised short ribs, charred ribeye, Iberian pork, or other intensely flavored meats. The wine’s dark fruit, spice, and toasted notes also pair beautifully with aged Manchego, blue cheeses, and dishes featuring smoky or herb‑driven components.
