Route Stock 2024 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley, CA)
offers a textbook introduction to Napa Valley elegance with a remarkably approachable profile right out of the bottle. Sourced primarily from prime benchland and valley floor vineyard sites, the wine opens with lifted floral notes of rose petal and violet alongside core aromas of black cherry, dark plum, and subtle baking spice. On the palate, it delivers a dense, mouthwatering core of fresh blackberry and blackcurrant balanced by sturdy, fine-grained tannins and a lingering touch of toasty French oak. It is supple, energetic, and perfectly built for early drinking alongside simple, savory meals like pan-seared steak or rich roasted meats.
DeLille 2023 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley, WA)
captures the trademark structure and freshness that make Washington State Cabernet so compelling. The 2023 vintage displays an aromatic array of cassis, crushed marionberry, and sweet pipe tobacco intermingled with subtle dried herbs and dark chocolate. Full-bodied yet beautifully seamless, the palate highlights deep black cherry and ripe plum, underpinned by vibrant acidity, refined tannins, and a striking core of gravelly minerality. The signature cool-night retention of acidity in the Columbia Valley gives this wine a bright, lifted finish that lingers effortlessly, promising excellent longevity for those who choose to tuck a bottle away.
Cerro Chapeu 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rivera, Uruguay)
brings a refreshing, terroir-driven perspective from the high-elevation, red-sandy soils of Rivera, Uruguay. Crafted with a focus on fresh fruit purity and minimal intervention, this bottling eschews heavy oak in favor of vibrant varietal character. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark plum, and cracked black pepper blend with subtle notes of olive tapenade and smoldering fresh herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and bright, featuring crunchy dark berries and velvety, fine tannins that lend a clean, savory grip to the finish. It serves as a fantastic reminder of how lively and food-friendly South American Cabernet can be when balanced with restrained extraction.
Amulet Estate 2022 AE Cabernet Sauvignon (Yountville, CA)
We featured the 2021 a few months ago and the new vintage is just as good, but in different ways. Where the 2021 vintage showed a somewhat brighter, more herbal, and tightly wound profile driven by fresh marjoram, tobacco leaf, and tart plum skin, the warmer conditions of 2022 yielded a distinctly richer, darker, and more luxurious expression. The 2022 vintage opens with inky black fruits, crème de cassis, espresso bean, and subtle anise. On the palate, it expands with layers of sweet black cherry, mission fig, and dark cocoa, held together by broad, velvety tannins and a plush, rounded texture that lingers long through a savory, oak-kissed finish. While the 2021 leaned into tension and savory herbal nuance, the 2022 embraces generous depth and seamless, hedonistic power.
