Poggio Bonelli’s 2019 Tramonto d’Oca is a bold and complex Tuscan red made entirely from Petit Verdot, showcasing the grape’s depth and intensity in a single-varietal expression. The wine pours a deep ruby red with garnet reflections, a result of its extended aging—36 months in barrique and large wooden barrels. On the nose, it reveals a layered bouquet of spices, violets, blackberries, and blackcurrants, followed by notes of pickled fruit, coffee, and dark chocolate. The palate is firmly structured with powerful tannins and a savory, earthy character, offering flavors of red fruit jam, pepper, cinnamon, tobacco, and cocoa. A touch of burnt earth and leather adds further complexity, and the finish is long and persistent, evolving beautifully with time and air.
