The 2017 Casa Piena Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon is a Yountville, Napa Valley classic that is virtually 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 20 months in 80% new French oak. Crafted by renowned winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, it features dark fruit, baking chocolate, and a bright acid backbone.
The 2017 Casa Piena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon displays a deep, saturated purple hue with a dark violet rim. The wine offers an aromatic bouquet of mint, plum, kirsch, black tea, and lavender. On the palate, this bold and structured wine delivers rich, mouth-coating waves of black cherry, plum compote, cassis, and finely ground baker's chocolate, complemented by a subtle touch of toasted cedar. Despite its impressive concentration and opulence, it boasts integrated, velvety tannins and a bright acid backbone that maintain a level of freshness throughout its long, floral, and spicy finish.
Because of its robust yet refined structure and pronounced acidity, this Cabernet pairs exquisitely with rich, savory dishes. Excellent matches include prime ribeye steaks, grilled venison, lamb chops, and hearty braised short ribs. The natural tannins of the wine bind beautifully to the proteins and fats in the meat, while the bright red and dark fruit flavors complement earthy mushrooms, truffle butter sauces, and aged hard cheeses.
