Giovine "Valerio" Rosso

$ 1199 $ 1399

Giovine is one of our favorite small Italian, family owned wineries that crafts amazing, organic, DOC & DOCG wines around their hometown of Canelli in the heart of Piedmont's Asti region.  While their winery is small, the Giovine family is very influential and respected in the area with Roberta Rosa Giovine serving as the current mayor of Canelli and Ignazio a key figure in establishing the rules and boundaries for the region's newest DOCG's Nizza and Canelli.

Rooted in nearly three centuries of viticultural history in Canelli, L’Armangia represents the modern renaissance of one of Piedmont’s most historic winemaking hubs. Formally trained in viticulture and oenology, owner and winemaker Ignazio Giovine guides the estate alongside his wife Giuliana, focusing on small-lot production that privileges elegance and varietal clarity over sheer power. The estate's plots are scattered across prime, high-altitude slopes surrounding Canelli and the Nizza zone, where limestone-rich soils, consistent cooling breezes, and thoughtful vineyard placement yield exceptional fruit balance. Ignazio employs a low-intervention approach in the cellar, backed by decades of sustainable vineyard management that relies on permanent cover crops to preserve soil biology and indigenous flora. Whether crafting focused Barbera, vibrant white selections, or classic aromatic Moscato, Ignazio’s wines deliver a distinct sense of place, showcasing the structural purity and terroir-driven finesse that define top-tier Asti viticulture.

Valerio is a fantastic blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cabernet Merlot and Freisa from one of our favorite producers of incredible value wines in Piemonte. Ripe red fruit with earthy undertones greets you out of the glass. Tasting the wine reveals primary flavors of Bing cherry, forest berries, roses and baking spice ending with a clean finish.  A wine, like all of Ignazio's offerings punches well above its weightclass and drinks like a much pricier bottle.
