Bouquet of Roses, 6-pack sampler includes:
Moulin de Gassac "Guilhem" Rose (France) – Grown on 25 to 50 year-old vines grown on stony soils. The color is pretty, a pale pink. Nuances of peach, strawberry, wildflower and “flint” on the nose. Flavors of almost ripe raspberry, apricot and peach delight the palate and finish with crisp sweet/tart acidity balanced with a hint of minerality. This beautiful Rosé is crafted from the typical southern France/Provence blend of grapes – Grenache, Syrah & Carignan.
Cabriz Dao Rose (Portugal) - In a blind tasting, we're betting most will guess this to be a $25 or more Rose from Provence. Blend of 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Alfrocheiro it is light-medium bodied, ripe, tangy, and honeyed on the palate with cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and grapefruit flavors with a kiss of juicy fruitiness that's balanced by fresh, crisp acidity. Some apple and stone fruit flavors come through on the back palate, joining the cherry and raspberry notes, plus touches of leesy mineral that linger on the finish, with very good length.
Face a la Mer Cotes de Thau Rose (France) – Usually when you see Blanc de Noir on a label it’s followed by Brut or some other similar term denoting the relative sweetness of the sparkling wine that you’re looking at. Here it means the same thing, “White wine from black/red skinned grapes” but since things stop there, there’s no carbonation in this fantastic German white wine made from Pinot Noir. Aromas of green apple, white flowers, and peach lead into flavors of citrus, raspberry, and light minerality. The palate is dry, with zesty acidity and a touch of effervescence. The wine ends with a juicy and medium finish with a light chalky note.
Backsberg Pinotage Rose (South Africa) - The most unique/rare Rose in our sampler is this fantastic wine crafted from South Africa's signature red varietal Pinotage. Red fruit flavors of cherry and strawberry give way to minty freshness gleaned from earlier picked fruit. Lightly tinted from red grape skins, this salmon hued wine is fruity and juicy on the palate. Low in tannins, it displays delightful notes of melon, ripe tropical fruit and strawberry.
Muga Rose (Portugal) - Santola is a perennial favorite and an absolutely crazy value for just $9 per bottle. The Santola Vinho Verde Rosé is made exclusively from red grape varieties. A soft crushing and pressing make it possible to gently extract the juice. The Rosé must is clarified, resulting in a bright, clear wine. The final wine has vibrant aromas and flavors of fresh strawberry, pomegranate and orange zest, which are corralled by a pleasantly light spritz. Very refreshing.
Poggio Costa Prosecco Rose (Italy) - I think that a lot of people assume that Prosecco Rose has been around for ages, and while pink bubblies from your favorite Prosecco producers have been a thing for quite some time, they weren't allowed to be labeled as "Prosecco" until 2021. Poggio Costa has by far been our best selling Prosecco for a couple of years now, but as delicious as it is, the Rose version IS EVEN BETTER!
Refreshing crisp white peach, subtle wild berries and bright fresh raspberries. Light pink floral notes of Pinot Nero creates aperfect union with Glera contributing to vibrant red fruit complexity.
